"GBD" it said. I saw the banner from a distance and couldn't quite make out the fine print.

As I drew closer, passing hay bales, folk singers, and stalls of local Point Reyes produce along the way, it grew clear: Golden. Brown. And delicious.

Sign

Sold! to this pregnant lady in flip-flops with just enough money left in her pocket ($7) to give this grilled cheese a go. There were three choices, but I immediately opted for the Breakfast Bobby:

Sandwich

Two slices of locally-baked Brickmaiden wholewheat bread slathered with Straus sweet butter and pressed with Bravo Farm cheddar (available from Cowgirl Creamery), and — and, this is the best part — one Point Reyes Station egg, fried. I placed my order — and then saw the sign offering a slice of "Peter's tomato" for two additional dollars. No idea who Peter is, but I hailed my husband for the two extra bucks. Then, waited, patiently at a nearby picnic table.

Yup, as predicted, absolute perfection for $9. Grease included.

The Point Reyes Farmers Market runs through Nov 1st. Go hungry.

This sounds great, worth driving to Point Reyes for. My current fave grilled cheese is the one they serve at lunch at Citizen Cake in SF (www.citizencake.com)
